Kia ora Brighid,
ReplyDeleteWelcome to the Summer Learning Journey for 2017-2018! My name is Emiely (pronounced "Emily") and I will be replying to your blogs. Thank you for your headings which show me which day and activity you are blogging about. This really helps me! Great work reading through Maui and the giant fish to find these three facts. Are you able to give me a bit more detail? Why did Maui have to use his own blood as bait and how did he do it? By adding more detail your reader will be able to know a lot more about Maui.
Whenever I read the story of Maui and the Sun it reminds me of the movie Moana because Maui is also a character in the Moana movie. Have you see Moana?
Fantastic start to the Summer Learning Journey, Brighid. It is wonderful to see you have done all three activities for day one. I look forward to reading more of your blog posts.
Noho ora mai,
Emiely :)
Kia ora Brighid (for the second time),
ReplyDeleteFantastic letter structure! You have greeted Dakota, explained your voyage to New Zealand and ended the letter with your name. I think your sentence that says "The air is getting colder as we travel on" is a great sentence because it puts a picture in my mind of a waka travelling in the sea and the air looking more and more misty from the cold.
I remember when I was travelling on the plane to Thailand for the first time I was very nervous because I had never been on a plane before. I was worried that the plane might crash! When the plane took off, there was a funny feeling in my stomach... butterflies!
Have you thought about the emotions you might be feeling while on the Moana and why?
Noho ora mai,
Emiely :)
Kia ora Brighid (for the third time!! Haha!),
ReplyDeleteI like that you have said "Waka Ama looks interesting, but I would not like to be in it because boat racing is what I like to do". You have started to explain why you do not want to be in a Waka Ama race. Next time it would be great if you added more reasons. Why else would you not want to be in a Waka Ama race?
I know I wouldn't want to be in a Waka Ama race because I would be scared that the waka might tip and my whole team would fall into the water! I think it would be quite scary if that happened because we would be rowing over deep water.
I can't wait to read more of your blog posts!
Noho ora mai,
Emiely :)

ReplyDeleteMy name is Megan, I am part of the Summer Learning Journey team who will be commenting on your posts this summer.
You have made a great start to the Summer Learning Journey. I really liked the letter you wrote to your friend, Dakota. You have thought about many aspects of what the journey might be like for you travelling to New Zealand on a waka. I agree that it must have been super cold for the explorers being so exposed when crossing the ocean. If I was Dakota I would love to hear about some incredible sight you may have seen. Do you think you would have seen any animals on your journey? If so, what do you think you would see?
The team and I have been excited to see you begin the Summer Learning Journey activities this summer. Keep up the amazing work, I am exited to see more of your journey.
Have a lovely day,
Megan :)
