throne of glass book review

   Throne of Glass Book Review

Are you a child in your teen/ tween years? Are you someone looking for something to read as in something that’s actually interesting! I have got just the book for you. Seriously this book is amazing! It’s got fantasy, adventure, lots of action and even the slightest bit of romance.
Throne of Glass is a fiction book written by Sara J Mass.  I would recommend this book for children aged 11 to 16 because it has some strong content in it that would be too much for younger children but I think that this age group is old enough to handle it in a mature way.

Most of the story is set in Rifthold which is the capital city of Aradon. Aradon is the largest country  in the continent of Erilea

The main characters in this book are Celaena Sardothien, Chaol Westfall, Dorian Havilliard, Nehemia Ytger, Cain, the king of Aradon, Nox and Kaltien.  Celaena is an eighteen year old assassin who gwas caught and now is a slave in Evander,a salt mine slave camp. Celaena gets the opportunity to go into a competition in which she could finally get her freedom after five years of being the king’s assassin… but only if she wins.

Chaol is captain of the guard in the castle serving for the king. Then the competition comes along and his best friend Dorian chooses to enter Celaena and it becomes his job to look after this snobby teenage brat, or so he thinks.

Dorian is the crown prince of Aradon and best friends with Chaol. When Celaena comes to the castle for the competition Dorian thinks he might of actually found love other than the thousands of girls that have swooned over him in the past.

Nehemia is the princess of Eyllwe. She is a strong leader and will do anything for her country and stopping her people from becoming slaves of the king of Aradon. She goes to  Rifthold to supposedly learn about the Aradon way of life and ends up becoming best friends with Celana.

There isn’t really much to say about the king of Aradon. He’s just some evil king who took over the whole continent, slaughtered heaps of people and somehow managed to get rid of magic.

Cain is the Duke of Perrenton’s entry into the competition. He is from the White Fang Mountains where there is rumoured to still be magic but he is not the nicest person to be around.

Nox is the only person in the competition to be nice to celana throughout it. They help each other to keep going and complete the elimination challenges.

Katlian is one of the ladies in waiting To the Queen.  She is very beautiful and comes with family rumoured to be Richer in the King but she is very snobby and spends most of her time trying to win over Dorian.

I think that this book ralits to me because me and celaena both started fighting training at a young age  and I feel like I can connect to her personality and we are really similar people.

In conclusion I think Throne of Glass is a good book that you should definitely read!
I think you will really enjoy it especially if you like drama, adventure and fantasy books.

Ka pai!I've seen both you and Fionn enjoy this book, and this is a great opportunity for me to learn more about the novel. I'm curious to understand more about Celaena and how you and she are similar. Do you think there is a message in the novel for people to learn from?

  2. Hi Brighid
I enjoyed reading your book review, and especially liked how you introduced the setting, characters, and plot, without giving away what happens at the end.
May I show this review to my university students? They are learning about teaching and assessing reading at the moment, and are always interested to see students' work.
