Quick Writes Term Four
We have been working on ‘Quick Writes.’ This is where you are given something to write about (a writing prompt) and you only have 10mins to write as much as possible using this writing prompt.
For our writing prompts we will use either images or short videos.
1)The great tomato festival
As I walked across the battlefield armor ready. Soldiers were all ready on the ground. I carefully dodged the flinging whero coming this way but then wham I got hit right in the face. As more and more came dying my uru sludging between my kōiti. It was time, let the festival begin!
Spider-man City
As the āniwaniwa colours fell down in beautiful confetti falling around. As I smelt the aroma of kai, the petrol and the fume of smoke. The crowd was especially loud today as the makekeno bus flew by. The city looked amazing and in the middle of it all was the amazing spider man.
3) A Stormy Day
A STORMY NIGHT
As the chooks scrambled for cover. The rain pounding. The thunder booming as the wind howled through the house you could tell Tawhirimatea was angry. Then kiko (lightning) struck the house rapping its mānawa (fingers) around the building. How could anyone moe(sleep) though this.

The Beekeeper
Quick Write Number One - The Beekeeper
For the next two weeks we are going to work on ‘Quick Writes.’ This is where you are given something to write about (a writing prompt) and you only have 10mins to write as much as possible using this writing prompt.
For our writing prompts we will use either images or short videos.
The purpose of this is to practise writing fluently.
When we look at our writing prompt we will have about 10-15 mins to discuss it and brainstorm some ideas and vocabulary.
Our learning goals are to:
-write a description, using powerful words and phrases
-include some Te Reo Māori
-carefully check that our sentences make sense and have correct punctuation and spelling.
When we are writing we need to think about…
- What do I want my reader to see?
2) What do I want my reader to hear?
3) What do I want my reader to smell?
Tips:
-look closely at the picture or video
-think about the three key questions and the learning goals
-give yourself time to plan and write
Do your writing here
I walked over to the hive squashing the fresh drew in the morning sun. The cool breeze went over me. I may be used to this suit but it still made me feel like I was covered in snow. As I opened the frame a swarm of bees flew out to the flowers in the distance. Scrapping the honey off the comb, as the sweet aroma wafted up to my nose. Then I know: Beekeeping is the best job.

Robot Rampage
In are class we has been learning about narrative writing. We used a story starter the link is below. I hope you enjoy my writing about a mad robot.
Here is my story
In the weekend there was one thing Brighid absolutely hated. Her brother Fionn bossing her around. She wished she could just lock herself up in the shed working on her latest robot invention. That was it! What if Brighid could build a robot to stop Fionn from bossing her around!
Fionn and Brighid’s parents were teachers and spent their whole weekends marking work and attending meetings. Fionn loved taking advantage of this so he called it ‘Fionn incharge time’ and he bossed Brighid around for hours on end. If Brighid could build a robot to stop Fionn from bossing her around, then she could finally get some time to play without having to do Fionn's laundry.
Brighid was building in the shed all night then suddenly
“presenting the no boss robot din din di din,” she exclaimed with delight she was finally done. My brother was as bossy as a horse, but finally she was a free women!
Brighid wheeled the robot upstairs and stopped outside Fionn’s room she was about to knock on the door when a voice said “Brighid is that you” Brighid went back in shock “Fionn” she said nervously. “Now”,Fionn said,“scrub the dishes I want to see my reflection in them, you also need to mow the lawns, do the laundry, clean the house and make the beds. “Okay is that everything”? She said as she left the room. “O Brighid”he said I want chicken for dinner. Brighid was about to walk out of the room when she remembered something “no”she said “wwhhaatt” said Fionn “may I remind you that while mum and dad are at work I am incharge so you do what I say, so go and do you chores”. Beeb beeb beeb eek eek beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeb eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeek I am the NO BOSS ROBOT and you shall not boss around your favorite sister or you shall die! He said holding up a chainsaw and smiling an evil mimingo ngā pāpāringa(smile).Fionn quivered back in fear “oookkaayyyyy” he quivered. “Got to stop people from bossing people”,said the keretao (robot) disappearing at the speed of light. So Brighid and Fionn decided to watch some tv. The news channel flashed on “people all over the world are dying just because they are telling people what to do,god help me”said the news man running off stage. “In other news the world's population of anzac poppies are dropping like flies”said the news woman enthusiastically. “Okay”,said Brighid, “there's only one thing to do now” “yes” said Fionn “hide”they said together running to the supply closet.
From inside they heard the keretao(robot)trudging up the stairs “now my task is to destroy Fionn”,said the keretao(robot)“need more anzac poppiezzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz” “nows our chance”,said Fionn “lets do it”, said Brighid, smash, bang, clatter and then they were done. The robot was destroyed and Brighid and Fionn just carried on arguing.

Maui legends
As part of Matariki we re-read the legends of Maui. We then retold a legend and created artwork. Below is my artwork.
The Fish of Maui
A long time ago the was a boy called Maui who lived with his brothers who were very mean to him. One day his brothers decided to go fishing. When Maui asked if he could go with them they just told Maui to go away but Maui really wanted to go fishing. So taking his grandmother’s magic jawbone he went and hid in the bout. Later on when Maui was sure he was out at sea he jumped out of his hiding spot and said, “Let’s fish his.” His brothers were taken aback. So they said, “You still can’t fish with as you do not have any bait and you’re not using ours. So using the jawbone Maui struck his nose so he could use his blood as bait. He threw out his line and after a while Maui felt a tug on his line. He tried pulling it up but it was heavy. At last his catch rose to the surface. To Maui’s surprise it was a giant stingray. Maui’s brothers were jealous of his catch so when Maui went down to thank Tangaroa god of the sea they attacked the stingray using their knives. Nowadays the stingray is the North Island, the canoe is the South Island and the anchor is Stewart Island and together they make Aotearoa/ New Zealand .

A Short Statement about the topic.
eg. ‘Rugby League Is A Great Sport’
|
Fix Our whīra
|
Overview/ Statement of position
A brief statement of your view about the topic. What you believe or want to argue.
|
I think We need to fix are whīra ! because we need it to train play and use it for events and also balls keep going over the fence
|
Series of Arguments
Reasons
Your points supporting your view about the topic. Your arguments to support your statement and information to support these arguments.
Remember
-argument
-supporting detail, reasons, examples
|
firstly children need to have fresh air run around and play. the whīra is a big part of our play area. we have to use the whīra to sport events sats as cross country, athletics and soccer. we need more space.
|
Secondly we need the whīra for special events such as the gala, the hangi and the matariki nihts. we need this so the school can raise money and families can came along and have a pai time.
| |
Thirdly we have already dug out the pighps (pipes) to just leaf all that dirt their would just be a waste of money we can’t have that aria blocked off forever.
| |
Further more kids keep accidentally throwing balls over such as netball, basketball, hockey balls and soccer balls. So teachers have to waste their time getting them.
| |
As well as with all the kids on the court it increases the chants of ingres (injuries). the year waru are a lot tougher than the year tahi.
| |
finally, a whīra won’t just be pai for the students it will be pai for the staff. There is a benefit for all of as.
| |
Concluding statement
Summing it up. A summary of your arguments and your view on the topic.
|
In conclusion we need to fix our whīra because we need the whīra for speci avits. To train.rain around and to stop ingress. For this reasons it is mandatory that we ficks are whīra .
